  • Notes
    • Gladney's last child was born abt. 1870 and Rachel Ann was a widow in 1880, therefore, Gladney died between 1870 and 1880.

Carol Patterson Bradley informed on January 15, 2000, that she had found evidence of a tombstone in Union Methodist Cemetery, Somerset Twp as follows:
      Gladney E. Patterson 1872 age 23
The date fits but the age does not - he would have been 30 years old.

I found in the Summer of 2001, in the Union Methodist Cemetery, a grave marker which was that of Gladney. Very difficult to read. Could make out the name on close examination but little else. The photograph which I took is impossible to read.

Kathy Greenlee reports from "Belmont County History" that Gladney was wounded during the assault of Fort Wagner, S.C. in July 1863.

Gladney was not at home in Census of 1870.

The 1880 Census shows the twins, Albert and Alice, as being born in what appears to be "MO" - could this be Missouri? They don't appear in Ohio in the 1870 Census.
