    • YEARSLEY H. JONES:
Yearsley's birthdate is figured from his age on the 1850 census.Yearsley was about 29 in 1849 when news arrived in Harrison County, Ohio that gold had been discovered in California.Moved by the spirit of adventure, a party of men from Cadiz left for the gold fields on 20 March 1849.They went by boat from Martins Ferry, Ohio to St. Louis, Mo and then from there to St. Joseph, Mo. where they began the trip across the plains. They had 3 wagons and 21 mules. They traveled the northern route, traveling by the way of old Fort Laramie, Wyoming, Independent Rock, Wyo, Soda Springs, Id and finally down the sink of the Humbolt Riven in Nevada. They cut into Calif near Stockton and arrived at Weaverville, Ca on 24 Aug 1849.Among those 49ers from Cadiz was Dr. Y H Jones who evidently started the journey but returned home at some point before it was complete. The other 11 men from Cadiz and one who joined the group at Louisville made it all the way to Ca despite storms, quicksand, thirst and exhaustion.
In the 1850 census for Cadiz, Harrison Co, Oh, Y H Jones, age 30, physician, was living with Y H (J K?) Thomas, age 30 physician, and wife, Almire (Yearsley's sister, Elmira). The Plainfield Monthly Meeting records show on 19 May 1853, after her marriage to Yearsley Jones on 24 Nov 1852, that Emily Jones (formerly Kenard) was condemned, marriage contrary to discipline.Belmont co records show that Yearsley and Emily were married by James Henderson, Minister of the Gospel. He evidently was not a Quaker minister.Emily is shown as a Hicksite Quaker.Emily Kennard is recorded in the Plainfield Monthly Meeting records earlier with her family. On 26 July 1832 Anthony Kennard and wife, Elisabeth, and their children, Sarah, Levi, Emily and Mary (Hicksite Quakes) were received on request at that meeting.
The Stillwater Monthly Meeting records show that on 18 Oct 1856, Yearsley Jones was granted certificate to Plainfield Monthly Meeting. The Plainfield MM records show that on 13 Nov 1856, Yearsley was received on certificate from Stillwater MM dated 18 Oct 1856.Yearsley is shown as a Hicksite Quaker. Those same minutes record on 13 Feb 1862 that Yearsley Jones was released by request.
Belmont Co History, Sheriff, mentions under Samuel Hilles, Page 244, that Dr. Y. H. Jones practised dentistry in Loydsville in 1858.
